BBC Radio 4 You and Yours has just done a feature on Pirate Radio in London. It focused on security on high tower blocks, and also intimidation from pirates and the physical dangers of their equipment in ventilation shafts etc. Haringey says it alone has spent £250k on improving security because of pirate broadcasters.

The item starts about 7 minutes into the programme, and was quite long and detailed.

The Ofcom spokesman suggested the would-be broadcasters should use webcasting, but interestingly, another commentator said one of the key attractions of pirate radio is the ease of use for listeners tuning new local stations on FM compared with the struggle of having to find stations from among thousands on the Internet!
