Fancy a clear out of your old kit?

Donate it to a new community radio station in Tanzania!

The Prometheus Radio Project is seeking donations of field recording
and studio equipment for a new community radio station in the village
of Imbaseni in Tanzania.

Prometheus is working with the United African Alliance Community Center
(UAACC - www.uaacc.habari.co.tz) in Imbaseni to help them build their
new community radio station barnraising style! The community will be
coming together over the course of a few days in August and
collectively building the station as well as conducting and
participating in workshops on technical aspects of radio, production,
editing, etc.

Though most of us operate on a shoestring budget, your contributions to
this project will go a long, long way. The UAACC's station will be
only the second community radio station in Tanzania and the station
will play a much needed role in education by broadcasting classes for
those unable to attend in person and in the dissemination of important
local news and information on critical issues like HIV/AIDS. The
station will also be an important outlet for local musicians and
culture in Imbaseni and the surrounding villages. Many of the local
commercial media outlets in the region are owned by Clear Channel who
surprise, surprise, has excluded the voice of local communities.

To help the station get started, we've set up a UAACC START-UP FUND.
If you have any of the following items, would be willing to purchase
any items or make a contribution towards the project, your support
would be greatly appreciated. There are grant applications out that
would provide long-term financial support for the station, but right
now, it's about helping them raise the money for things like the
transmitter, antenna, basic studio equipment and a few field recording
kits.

Specifically, we are looking for:

2-3 mini disc recorders
2-3 microphones (2 studio mics plus 2-3 field mics w mini jacks)
2-3 headphones
mini to mini cables
xlr cables
xlr to phono cables
mini to phono adaptors
phono to mini adaptors

lots of blank mini discs

2 cd players
2 cassette player/recorder w cassette to cassette recording
1-2 turntables
mic stands (if can fold enough to fit in someone's luggage)

computer memory
external harddrive
(We need to find out what their specs are, but anyone with some, let us
know and we will find out)

If you have anything to donate, please let us know so we can keep
track. Contact Kate Coyer at k.coyer at gold.ac.uk. Equipment can be
shipped directly to the UAACC or if small, shipped to Kate in London
(email her for shipping addresses). Checks should be made payable to
Prometheus Radio Project, and write in the memo field TANZANIA.
Contributions can be mailed directly to Prometheus Radio Project, P.O.
42158, Philadelphia, PA, 19101, USA.

All contributions are tax deductible.
