[cma-l] ARIAS

One sees these discussions from time to time on the list and I can understand people’s frustration that the CMA does not have the public profile which one would wish it did have.
Sadly it seems that anything with the word community in the title is looked upon as secondary, even inferior and quite often “cheap” in the sense that it can exist without much money.

There is a lucrative industry out there in the world giving awards to everything under the sun as well as using public funds to do so, selling tables and three course dinners, wines, buying speakers and entertainment for the night, etc etc. I don’t know about this particular award, but they often have large budgets for a one off event.

Whether it is a meritocracy or not is anyones guess…..it’s up to the organisation as is whether it matters or not to receive an award in the first place.

With best wishes,
Marilyn

They do a fantastic job in serving the prison community by providing their many listeners with helpful and meaningful radio that literally changes lives. The work they do helps to reduce reoffending and impacts the wider community beyond the prion gates, for the better.

>> It is a real stroke of genius too for them to promote prison radio - which no one can hear - as exemplary of community media. A sure indication of the Academy's attitude to the CMA and its membership.
>> Time to open a dialogue, perhaps, with "Rog". Or is it the case that everyone really wants to be just like the Academy's pets, sounding the same hysterical middle-English monotone?
