It’s all irrelevant the key issue is exactly as it has been for the last 15 Years --- it’s all about being on a level playing surface. Notice how I took the word ‘’’compete’’’ out so there’s no competition, we’re just looking for a bit of fair play, let’s all help each other – BBC / Commercial / Community or if at least there isn’t going to be any assistance or help, that’s fine, but for pete’s sake stop taking the p e e !

I hope no one stands up at Conference and starts bleating on about this … if they do ---- better throw me out now 😊

This is all so ridiculous …… I have just had to pinch myself again.

I think what you mean Bill or what you are saying is we have to go ‘cap in hand’ we need to stop this ‘cap in hand’ malarkey and get some fire in your boots.

We don’t have a lot at our disposal, but one we do have (regardless of the facts or why or wherefor) is the restrictions …. I repeat …. Put em in a bin bag and dump em on the Ivory Towers front steps ! give it to me, I’ll do it and I’ll even pay the congestion charge out of my own pocket.

It’s even a b l o o d y insult that hardworking people like Bill, Martin, Lucinda and others who have gone before have to ask these no brainer questions.

I ask the question again is it me that’s got the problem here or am I reading it right and it’s everyone else who has lost the plot ??

I’m fuming I’m spitting fire best go and have a cup of Tea before I throw a wobbler and bust the keypad.

Nick

Hi Nigel

We're looking into it to determine the reasons given for community radio stations to be excluded from the scheme and if they can join local news consortia to receive news content.

I should think that the biggest onslaught to income streams for local newspapers is the rise in Internet advertising.

Best regards for now

Bill

We discussed this a while ago with several people.

We were told, specifically, that the outward flow of news would NOT be allowed to go to community radio stations.

The information we were told, was that this project is to help prop up local commercial newpapers and commercial web news media, who are suffering due to the BBC local news services.

In other words, community radio was to be excluded from receiving any news, as it wasn't designed for us, but to help ailing commercial outlets.

Does anyone know, 100%, what the correct position is?

The BBC is inviting applications for the Local News Partnerships project.

A partnership between the BBC and the local news industry will offer 150 journalists recruited to report on councils and other local services across the country takes a significant step forward this month.

Applications for news organisations that want to be involved in the Local News Partnership opened on 15 May 2017 and close at 12pm on 26th May 2017.

The Eligibility Criteria are robust:

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/reports/pdf/bbc-news-news-media-assocation-partnership-criteria.pdf

And further notes on the application process may be found here:

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/howwework/partnerships/bbclocalnewspartnerships_guidancenotes.pdf

The deadline is very tight and the qualifying threshold may be out of reach of many community media projects. However CMA members, whether or not they wish to bid for contracts under the Local Democracy Reporter Service (LDRS), may still be able to benefit from access to the News Hub which will provide a daily supply of stories from the LDRS for free use by participating media.

Furthermore, community media groups that do not feel sufficiently qualified to apply might nevertheless find opportunities as partners in a consortium bid led by a qualifying news provider such as a local TV channel or a local newspaper. It is expected that large local newspaper chains will submit stand alone bids - however smaller independent local news media may be interested in being part of or leading a consortium. The BBC has indicated that they will welcome consortium bids and that multimedia production capability is a criterion.

It is recommend that if your community media project wishes to benefit from this scheme during the short time that applications are invited, determine if any bids are being made in your area and propose joining a local news consortium to the lead bid applicant.
