[cma-l] Invitation of applications for community radio licences

Explained more to the point, briefer and possibly better than my assessment Shirley--- but nonetheless the end result being the same. Words like ‘competition’  ‘need’  ‘small scale’    etc etc spring to mind …. These are the famous buzzwords used previously, but now the goalposts have gone on walkabouts again and we have same set of rules but viewed from the other angle.

 

You honestly couldn’t write the script on this lot.

 

You may recall I had a ding dong with James on this message board about 3 years ago ……. I stick to my guns and say that I feel I am right. The whole thing is a complete debacle, are folk making it up as they go along ?

 

So if I’m correct you would now have 2 Community Stations allegedly up against the Local Commercial Outfit, if the Community Station wasn’t of a different ilk, then they also would be competing against each other. However, regardless of what they deliver, the funding opportunities might be the same anyway, thus reducing the size of an already existent Cup Cake. I can feel A i told you so coming on again ……… are we going to take bets on which one of our wonderful fraternity is going to go down the pan owing to this announcement ?

 

With reference to that classic phrase     ‘’expression of interest’’       from what I can recall we offered plenty of expressions of both interest and frustration over the years with in the main no one paying a blind bit of notice. I                 I don’t understand this one I have to admit ---- I think my legs have been whooshed and whipped from under me.

 

I had to laugh at the small scale commercial radio list ----- relevant to us here of course in Cheshire, it says Dee …. Dee being part of the same group as Silk who also already have a DAB Station and these are ‘small scale’               at the bottom of the website it actually reads     DEE GROUP                                someone’s avin a Giraffe again             I repeat, you couldn’t write this script if you tried. It’s only the fact that it is so highly entertaining that prevents us all from going doo-lally.

Overlapping cover is not helpful to pre-existing Stations, I would have thought, and somewhat removes the need to identify a need...?
