anything up to, say, £30.

You then need a spare PC or laptop running anything from XP upwards (or you
run it as a background task on an admin PC in the studio – but I’d caution
against using any mission-critical PCs, obviously!).

One-off cost: roughly £100 – may be less.

Monthly cost: £1 (you will probably need to top up the SIM with a minimum
£5 every 6 months to keep the number active – make a diary note!)

No of inbound texts: Unlimited!

The result is a surprisingly flexible inbound text-to-email system for
unlimited texts for a modest start-up cost and virtually no ongoing cost.
You can route texts to different email accounts/places using initial words
(“Text us on 07xxx aabbcc and start your text with WIN”). And your
listeners get a “standard” 11-digit text number to use, which will cost them
nothing (it will be part of their “inclusive texts”).

NOTE: Texts to 5-digit short-code text numbers are all charged, at “your
standard rate”, which is around 12p/text on most UK networks, I think. They
are not part of inclusive text bundles).

You can also send outbound texts from the software. We don’t do this, but
it’s possible.

Anyway, this is what we use, and we find it brilliant – hope this helps!

Cheers

I wrote my own little app that uses a wavecom modem and writes into a
database. And then I have a page that shows text line by line It's a fairly
cheap outlay. You can also get commercial software that does the same.

Search for and gateway software.

Otherwise hosted platform I don't really have any to recommend as I don't
use any

Hi

We have been using text stuff from Radio Broadcast and now need another
similar just this month, however Radio Broadcast have stopped supplying this
service and we really need a text service which appears on the PC screen.
Any advise or sign posting will be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
