[cma-l] Community Radio Joint Music Licence

They skilfully (or otherwise) don’t ask;
Please specify how many people your station has employed with valuable prior experience gained from Community Radio?
RadioCentre appear incredibly naïve with this survey when obviously the biggest challenge to revenue is online advertising, and the biggest fight for listeners is with the BBC and non RadioCentre commercial stations.

Either way it’s definitely not the £1 a spot community station transmitting with less power than a bedside light!

A RadioCentre faux pas of epic proportions?

Kind Regards
Alan

Very interesting.

I don’t think this doesn’t sound like a survey but more a (fishing) expedition for (probably non-scientific) evidence of non-performance in our sector. And surely they prejudice any replies by saying they have raised concerns about our sector. I’d be more impressed if they simply asked their members in a neutral manner for their experiences of community radio stations.

I’d also be more impressed if they did conduct a proper survey rather than ask for ‘experiences’ . Maybe we should ask to be allowed to contact their members to conduct a proper survey! At the very least we should ask them to share the feedback they receive (all names retracted of course!).

But interesting that they acknowledge the ‘continuing growth of the sector’.

Richard

Meanwhile, the commercial radio stations are also engaged in a survey:

Community radio survey

We want to hear directly from [commercial radio station] members about their experiences of community radio stations. The Radiocentre Policy Group has raised concerns about the continuing growth of the sector and the need to ensure that community radio stations, run on a not-for-profit basis, really deliver content such as training, news and discussion which is of benefit to local communities, as required by the terms of their licences.
Dear Members & Supporters

...

In order to inform the CMA’s discussion with PPL and PRSfM the CMA has published an online survey seeking views from members and the wider sector on the proposed Joint Licence from PRSfM and PPL. Additionally, should any CMA members wish to share any particular views we would very much like to hear from you via this form:
