*‘BBC Local Apprentices: Broadcast Operators’*

The BBC’s Local and Regional Broadcast services are at the heart of
communities across the UK; telling stories that matter to people close to
home, on TV, radio, online and via our wider digital services. Working
alongside our journalists and programme makers, our dedicated team of
Broadcast Operators make sure the operational, craft and technical side of
our business runs smoothly.

This Apprenticeship is an exciting entry level opportunity to join the BBC
in towns and cities right across the country; helping to sustain the
reliability and quality of the BBC’s core technical services at local and
regional level.

There are opportunities for you at our primary stations across the English
Regions. Ideally we will try out best to accommodate you close to home. The
BBC stations that we are offering positions at are:

*Newcastle, Leeds, Salford, Hull, Birmingham, Nottingham, Norwich,
Cambridge, Oxford, Plymouth, Bristol, Southampton, Tunbridge Wells and
Jersey.*

Our Broadcast Operator apprentices will work across a variety of placement
areas within their local station. Your days will be diverse. You may be
creating content with production teams, troubleshooting file encoding and
deliveries and follow the news process from story initiation to playout;
some of those areas will be:

   - Setting up TV/Radio Studio facilities ready for recording/broadcast
   based on individual production needs
   - Planning and preparing the technical setup for studio communications
   and contributions from external/internal sources.
   - Planning and delivering our outside broadcasts jointly with Tech
   Organisers
   - Operating Vision/Sound and GFX control systems in our TV/Radio Studios.
   - Media Management – Ensuring that file based content is where it should
be and is safe and secure.

The apprenticeship lasts for 22 months, and the salary is £12,500pa for the
first year, rising to £14,500pa by the 2nd year. Your college and training
tuition fees are paid by the BBC. As part of this innovative
Apprenticeship, you will study for a L3 Diploma in Digital Technology that
concentrates on developing your knowledge, skills and understanding of
Network and IP Technologies as well.

You’ll need a passion for all things technical and digital and not afraid
to solve problems… You don’t need to have loads of experience, but you DO
need to have a logical mind, great attention to detail and have an appetite
to learn! And it will help if you have a strong interest in the BBC’s local
programmes and the technologies that support them. There’s no age
restriction – as long as you satisfy the College entry requirements we will
be able to take you (as long as you pass the interviews and assessments of
course!)

By the end of the scheme, you could find yourself working in one of the
following areas: Camera Operations/Floor Management, Vision Mixing, Sound
Operator, Technical Director, Sound & Vision Editing, Technology Organiser,
Broadcast Engineering (including working on Outside Broadcasts)
