The awards continue to roll in for Ujima Radio as they win their third in
less than six months.

Beating off competition from other nominees across south Wales and the
south west, Ujima collected Best Radio Station from the Mogul Minded Group
Regional Awards

held at Bristol Pavillion.

It comes hot on the heels of prizes from the National Diversity Awards

and the MTM regional award <http://www.mtmawards.co.uk/> - all three within
the last six months.

The accolade is particularly special for Ujima as it was voted on by the
general public. “I’d like to thank all of our listeners and supporters who
voted for us,” said broadcast manager DJ Style (aka Andrew Hartley). “Ujima
are finally getting recognised for our innovative approach to supporting
local music, as well as a platform for culture and community expression.”

The prestigious award comes just over a year after the community radio
station was fighting for its life, which resulted in it being uprooted from
its original premises in St Paul’s.

Since relocating to the heart of Broadmead, Ujima has continued to
broadcast a mix of music of African and Caribbean origin and discussions
and on matters that affect the local communities, including issues facing
the BME community.

Run by over 130 volunteers, Ujima provides volunteers training in all
aspects of radio production and broadcasting in exchange for commitment to
support their work.

Station chair Roger Griffith hopes the continued recognition will be of
benefit to all who are involved and listen to the station.

“With recognition comes resources, which means we can improve and developed
this precious platform that provides communities who face increasing
disadvantage and marginalisation a unique space to share their stories and
soundtracks of everyday life," he said.
