I assume others who have expressed interest in the SS DAB will also have received this. Well done PRS for waiving fees for the trial!

> Hello
>
> Thank you for expressing an interest in the Small Scale DAB trail recently announced by Ofcom. This email is to offer guidance on the licence required from PRS for Music should you be successful in obtaining a Small Scale DAB trial licence.
>
> Who are PRS for Music?
> PRS for Music is the trading name of The Performing Right Society (PRS) and The Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society. Together, we represent the vast majority of music composers and publishers in the UK and, by agreement with overseas societies, most of the world.
>
> All Ofcom licensed radio stations require a licence from both PRS and MCPS to broadcast our members works. The licences we offer cover the right to broadcast, and limited mechanical rights to record musical works onto your servers and into programme material for the purposes of broadcasting.
>
> Ofcom licensed Community, Hospital, Student and Long-Term RSL stations
> PRS for Music’s radio licences correspond with Ofcom’s at present. Therefore, if you are granted a Community Radio licence from Ofcom, you’ll require a Community Radio licence from PRS for Music, the same would apply for Hospital Radio and Student Radio.
>
> If you hold a current radio licence from PRS for Music, as a Community, Student or Hospital Station and you will be using the Small Scale DAB to simulcast your current output we shall cover the additional platform with a side letter. If this additional output will have a significant impact on your estimated Net Broadcasting Revenue for the current licence year (January 2015-December 2015) please let us know as we may need to adjust your licence fee.
>
> Please note, this approach is offered on a trial basis and conditional upon the station holding a current radio licence from PRS for Music and simulcasting the output exactly. We shall not be charging an additional fee for you to simulcast your station on small scale DAB. However, if your NBR increases as a result of the simulcast, this may have an impact upon the licence fees.
>
> Ofcom licensed Commercial Radio stations
> Commercial radio licences as standard include broadcast on DAB for existing licensees. Please contact us if the additional platform will greatly impact your estimated NBR for the current Commercial Radio Licence year October 2014 to September 2015.
>
> New applicants – including online only radio stations
> If you are currently operating an online only radio station, which is not licensed by Ofcom, you will be required to apply for our Commercial Radio Licence which covers DAB platforms as standard. The fees which shall apply will be pro-rated to 9 months. If your station will generate up to £29,499 in Net Broadcasting Revenue during the 9 month broadcast, the fee will be £705.25, excluding VAT. This fee would be invoiced on a quarterly basis, at the start of each calendar quarter.
>
> Please note, we will only accept applications from an online station which is already fully licensed by PRS for Music under the applicable licensing scheme. Please get in touch if you require any advice about which licence is applicable for your online radio station.
>
> You will not need to send PRS for Music any applications or instructions until you have been successfully granted a licence from Ofcom to participate in the Small Scale DAB trail. If you have any questions please direct them to radiolicensing at prsformusic.com and we shall endeavour to reply within 3 working days.
>
> You will also require a licence from PPL, for more information please email radiobroadcasting at ppluk.com.
>
> Best of luck with your application!
