First of all I would say the most reliable way to manage your studio remotely is to set up a lan microwave link ,this can be set up relatively cheaply nowadays and the only downside is the fact they are point to point so you may find yourself having to set up a midpoint ,but if you speak to the right person who is in control of a nice tower block or high point and explain that they are small and use about 5 watts of electric you will probably get somebody to agree to allow you to site your midpoint somewhere ! this also has the added benefit of not requiring any internet connection to connect to the studio hence (lan) this then allows you to see all your network drives and drag and move files around at around 50meg both ways ,you can then also set up a network access storage drive (nas) either at your midpoint or where ever the lan ends and back up all your studio pcs and office pcs to this device giving you a permanent off site backup ,so god forbid you have a major disaster you have copy's of all your pcs saving a lot of time and money ,you can also set up a voip phone system using freepbx (open source) free ! to manage your phone lines ,then using the microwave link lan you can put a phone in to manage calls when you are out of the office at your home or wherever your lan ends ,I'm not saying this is easy and takes 2 minutes to set up but if you start with the links then the rest can grow on top of it ,Google is a great tool to learn ,you just need the patience ! you can site servers ,pcs, anywhere on the lan meaning you are not putting all your eggs in 1 basket !

With regards to the night time play out , we use a lynx server and a audio over ip encoder , just install Linux set up a script to record the audio over ip stream that's on your local lan (it could be your shout cast stream url providing the bitrate is good enough ) local lan is the best way ! to prevent gitter and drop outs etc , set the script to record for 8 hours (or whatever you want ) we set 8 because we need 7 and if something goes wrong it gives us an hour worst case to sort things out in the morning ie cover dj automation etc ,share the drive where the scrip is saving the audio file to and make sure you set the permission on the folder so people can't delete or write ,create another script that deletes any files older than 1 day in the folder ,create a shortcut on the studio pcs deck top ,at 12 o'clock midnight drag the file into media player or whatever player you are using and hey presto you have a re run of your days output for night workers and every night your playing fresh shows without any greaf ,the added touch is to add auto announcement player the the pc that's playing the file ,this plays the announcement (this is a show rerun please do not text ) over the playlist when you set it to ie every 15mins etc and you can set when it should do it ie from midnight to 7am etc

Hope this helps sorry for any bad spelling grammar etc
Its very much not my strong point
