Black Dogs will present Guided Goitside an iteration of their latest
project that explores and reflects on Bradford's countercultural history,
present and future. Part of a Recon event with Juxtavoices and Bradford
Scratch Orchestra.

The event will be the first broadcast of the experimental composition
Guided Goitside, designed for radio broadcast and funded by the *Community
Media Association’s Modulate programme, in collaboration with BCB 106.6FM*.
Hear the work on BCB 106.6FM or with a live audience at Delius Arts &
Cultural Centre.

The piece follows the route of a guided walk around ‘Goitside,’ Bradford.
It integrates storytelling, community history, field recordings, sound and
music to reflect on Bradford's countercultural history and explore the
relationship between culture and regeneration.

Guided Goitside was developed from a series of open discussion and mapping
sessions, initially based around Jeff Nuttall's 1968 book Bomb Culture, and
seeking to unearth an alternative, vibrant and politicised picture of
culture in Bradford, from the 1960s to today, as a counter to a sanitised
view of culture-led regeneration. This resulted in an alternative guided
walk around ‘Goitside’ – an area of Bradford earmarked for a regeneration
programme that never happened. With thanks to our collaborators: Mary
Dowson, Dusty Rhodes, Jonny Buck, Gary Kavanagh, Robert Galleta and
everyone who took part in the mapping and discussion sessions.

Following the Black Dogs broadcast the event continues with Bradford
Scratch Orchestra – a platform for musicians and non-musicians interested
in playing improvised, experimental and collectively devised music – and
Juxtavoices, Sheffield’s antichoir, including many familiar faces from
Sheffield’s leftfield music, poetry and visual arts scene and led by Martin
Archer.
