Mark Menzies (Fylde, Conservative):

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport
what support his Department provides to help community radio projects
to obtain an FM or AM broadcasting licence.

Edward Vaizey (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Culture,
Communications and Creative Industries), Business, Innovation and
Skills; Wantage, Conservative):

The licensing of community radio stations is a matter for Ofcom, which
works independently of Government. However, earlier this year the
Government sought assurances from Ofcom that a further round of
community radio licensing would be undertaken to allow more community
stations to be licensed. Ofcom began a third round of community radio
licensing earlier this year.
