NESTA:
++++++

A new programme to support community-led innovation has been launched
by the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts. The
Neighbourhood Challenge will give awards of at least £150,000 each to
ten organisations across England for an 18-month programme to trial
different approaches to community organising. The idea is to show how
community organisations can support local people to tackle issues in
their neighbourhood, particularly in deprived areas.

Funds will be spent on providing groups with tools and training, and
to provide small-scale finance for local projects.

You have to register your interest online by 22 November. More information here:

Reaching Communities Fund:
+++++++++++++++++++++

Changes have been made to the Reaching Communities programme of the
BIG Lottery Fund:

- there is more money available (at least £100 million each year for
the next three years, and possibly £125 million this year)

- the rule which stopped unsuccessful applicants re-applying within
twelve months has been dropped.

Grants are for projects that help people and communities who are most
in need, and can make a difference. Projects can be new or existing
activities, or be the core work of the organisation.

New Buildings Fund (England):
+++++++++++++++++++++++

Additionally, a £75 million community buildings grants programme for
voluntary organisations and parish and town councils in England is to
be launched in early December. The fund will be available to “all
types of multi-purpose buildings used by communities, including
memorial halls, community centres and village halls”. It is not clear
whether this £75 million is extra to the £100 million mentioned above,
or whether it is part of the total sum. You may register for further
information about this fund by calling 0845 410 2030.
