[cma-l] Safeguarding: How wide should this go among volunteers?

We've been having a staff discussion at WFM 97.2 today about
safeguarding the youngsters and vulnerable adults who are part of the
user/member/volunteer mix.

The station has just become independent of Radio:Regen, with
some handover details still to be completed.

Volunteers working in schools and in sports clubs and so on who
have leading and coaching and mentoring roles giving contact
with youngsters and vulnerable adults are of course expected to
apply for CRB or enhanced CRB checks just as staff are.

That kind of contact applies to some community radio volunteers.

Clearly -> CRB checks required ..

But a large proportion of volunteers don't have these roles and are
perhaps analagous to ordinary team members at a sports club.
Such members at such clubs are not expected to CRB and this is
unlikely to change.

Anyone out there got good practice/best practice advice on
which adult volunteers MUST be CRB'd, on which adult
volunteers should preferably be checked, on which it really is
not necessary or reasonable to request or require this.

Some instances:

Board members? (No contact via that role)
Presenters or desk drivers with little or no contact with
youngsters or vulnerable adults and none solo?
Presenters of producers with more contact, e.g. a show
in adjacent time slot, but little or no contact with
youngsters or vulnerable adults and none solo?
Those with limited training or mentoring roles?
