Funding for Cultural Activities addressing EU issues

The European Commission Representation in the UK is offering project
co-funding for cultural activities that:

* Raise awareness and understanding of themes of key current
public importance as set out by the EU ( see below)
* Relate these themes to the applicants local communities or
target audiences
* Achieve a wide geographical spread throughout the UK.

Cultural organisations in the UK can apply for grants of up to
€25,000, with a maximum of 70% towards the total costs. Grants of
under €5,000 will not be considered.

The funding is to stage cultural events that promote the following themes:

* Ageing population
* Bio-diversity
* Climate change and the environment
* Combating poverty and social exclusion
* Migrants
* Sustaining growth, jobs and solidarity
* Raising the profile of the EC Representation in the UK.

The deadline for applications is 18 June 2010.

IdeasTap Photographic Award

The IdeasTap Photographic Award, from IdeasTap in partnership with
Magnum Photos, is a photographic competition open to Ideas Tap
member’s aged 16-30. The overall winner will receive £5,000 cash, a
£2,500 budget to produce a photo essay, a paid internship at Magnum in
London, and a week at the Magnum studio in New York to produce their
own In Motion essay (http://is.gd/cpKfD).

Short listed candidates will receive mentoring and their work will be
printed, framed and exhibited by IdeasTap, including in a book
featuring their work.

The theme for this year’s award is Future – life after 2012, after the
2012 Olympic Games. There are three categories:

   * Photojournalism
   * Environmental photography
   * Conceptual art.

The winners of each category will be given a budget of £2,500 to
create their own multimedia photo essay.

Applicants must submit five photographs.

The deadline for applications is 14 June 2010.
