The case for Channel 6:

There's a late runner coming up on the rails as the debate rages over
the future of public service broadcasting - it's called Local TV,
writes Peter Williams.

A number of key players in the industry are supporting Local TV,
including the BBC's former Director General Greg Dyke. Just as
importantly, all three of the political parties are moving fast to
find out more about how the link between local TV and PSB would work.
And from left to right, there's a recognition that ITV's determination
to cut down regional news and get rid of regional programmes, is -
without being too po-faced about it – a blow to the democratic
process.
