BBC Local pilot ties up with Press Association

The BBC's Local TV pilot in the West Midlands has been given the
backing of the Press Association (PA), which is making video footage
available for the scheme.
The agreement means PA's Birmingham bureau will supply footage on
news, sport and entertainment to the BBC, which will use it for the
10-minute "ultra-local" packages being broadcast on satellite and
broadband for the trial.
The PA bureau in Birmingham is increasing its number of journalists
to seven and will train all reporters on how to shoot and do rough
edits of video news.
PA has also decided to roll out this multiskilling approach to all
its bureaux in the UK.
The BBC Local TV pilot is due to run until August in the Black
Country, Coventry and Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire,
Stoke and Staffordshire and Shropshire.
If successful the BBC hopes to create 60 similar services around the
country, subject to approval by the governors.
