Documentary video festival to be hosted in Swansea

November 23 Over a hundred and a fifty people are expected to view
documentaries from around the world in Swansea's third annual environmental
and social justice video festival. Beyond TV will include discussions with
the filmmakers following a number of the screenings. Local Swansea issues
will also be aired such as the debate over the construction of an
incinerator at Crymlyn Burrows.

Beyond TV includes documentaries about the collapse of the economy in
Argentina, the rogue diamond trade of Sierra Leone, the British peace
movement, humorous parodies of the mass media as well as music videos with
a message. The doors will open from 12noon until 9pm.

Beyond TV Festival organiser, Cara Sandys said
" Beyond TV is an important outlet for the news you don't see on the news.
Sadly many important issues fall through the gaps in the mass media so our
unique festival is a platform for those views."

The media charity behind the festival is Undercurrents foundation, which
has been based in Swansea since 1997. The award winning organisation has
trained dozens of Welsh environmental and social justice campaigners to
use video for positive change. Their workshop is currently training asylum
seekers to use video to tell their stories.

Undercurrents foundation manager and television producer Helen Iles added,
"Undercurrents has proved that anyone with training and access to equipment
can produce documentaries which can not only win awards but also challenge
the publics perception of world events"

Entry to the festival is free due to support from Awards for all Wales.
