Subject: FW: PRESS RELEASE: Local Breakfast Shows Finally Top Wogan and
Moyles
Importance: High
Please find enclosed below a Press Release highlighting the results of a
recent survey regarding Radio listening in Leicester that was conducted in
person in Leicester City, online via entertainment website DigitalSpy and
through social networking websites Facebook and Twitter.
The purpose of the survey was to discover actual listenership to all radio
stations in Leicester, including those that do not recieve listening
figures through the listening survey RAJAR.
Although they affect results, community licensed radio stations such as
Harborough FM, Takeover Radio 103.2 and 103 The Eye's results are not
published by RAJAR due to subscription carriages. This survey includes these
stations:

"LOCAL BREAKFAST SHOWS FINALLY TOP WOGAN AND MOYLES"
Nationally, Chris Moyles and Terry Wogan have a combined estimated audience
of 22million people that continues to grow each quarter. However, new
research suggests that local radio listeners are tuning out of national
stations and tuning in to our very own local stations.
Recently published survey results compiled by Leicester City Surveys
revealed that local radio listeners are now tuning in to Takeover Radio's "Dave
Show" as their number one choice for breakfast radio, closely followed by
BBC Radio 1's national figure Chris Moyles in second, Harborugh FM's Dave
Irving in third, new host Ivan D'Sa at Leicester Sound was fourth followed by
BBC Radio 2's Wogan.
Dave Show presenter, Dave Bott, also came first in the survey results as
the respondent's Favourite Overall Presenter, followed by fellow local
presenters Dave Smith (Harborough FM), Richard Oliff (Harborough FM) and Mike
Watson (Takeover Radio). Results that demonstrate the growing support and
strength of locally produced radio broadcasting.
Leicester City Surveys (LCS) conducted its first Radio listening survey
across Leicester in person and online throughout May and early June.
Respondents were asked about they radio stations they usually tune into,
the timing they listen, the music they enjoy and their favourite presenters.
When the results were calcuated and published at the end of the survey
period, it became very interesting for both Takeover Radio and Harborough FM as
their presenters and stations had a great reaction.
Alan Dempsey of LCS conducted all the online field work along with a team
of street surveyors that researched in person throughout Leicester. He was
very suprised at the outcome of the results.
"It was suprising that stations such as Takeover Radio and Harborough FM
came out on top as community radio stations aren't often considered as having
a large listener base as they do not subscribe to major national listening
survey RAJAR.
"So it is fantastic that our survey can help applaud the fantastic local
efforts of all the volunteers that put these stations together and
demonstrate the support they have from the community in Leicester.
"It is also heartwarming to know that as television continues to cut down
on local output, local radio listening is stronger than ever and getting
stronger all the time."
The survey included all the local radio stations 103 The Eye, BBC Radio
Leicester, Demon FM, Eava FM, Harborough FM, Kohinoor FM, Leicester Sound, Oak
FM, Sabras Radio and Takeover Radio 103.2, regional stations such as Gold,
Heart 106 and Smooth 106.6, and the most listened to national stations,
BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC 5 Live.
