Election Coverage Workshop
London
Monday 27 March, 2006
10.00am-3.00pm

This workshop is aimed at anyone involved in programmes – staff and
volunteers – it doesn’t matter whether you are experienced or not – to
give you ideas and information about covering the election. The
workshop is put together by the CMA and the BBC with Ofcom and the
Electoral Commission.

*John Glover, Ofcom Senior Programmes Executive, will speak about the
special regulations that apply to broadcasters during the election period.

*Rod Beards, Journalism Development Co-ordinator, BBC Nations and
Regions will do a session on journalistic issues and approaches to
programme making for those who wish to do programmes during the election
period.

*Nina Morris and Owen Bale from the Electoral Commission will provide an
overview of the mechanisms involved in this year's election. They will
also speak about the importance of voter education and the role that
Community Media projects can play in encouraging voter participation.

*Julie Hill and Ann Kaye from the Women’s Radio in London will lead the
workshop. Julie Hill, Director of the Women’s Radio Group was an
adviser to the Broadcasting Standards Commission for a workshop for all
political parties on involving more women in the electoral process for
the 2001 Elections. Ann Kaye was a producer for the BBC and Talk Sport
radio. She has worked on their election coverage programmes.
