The BBC is putting all 40 of its regional radio stations online to
service what it sees as the growing community of people who want to
listen to local radio on their office computers.

Currently only six of the corporations regional stations are online
including BBC London, BBC Radio Scotland, Gaelic service Radio Nan
Gaidheal, Radio Wales, Radio Cymru and Radio Ulster.

But the BBC is planning to stream the other 36 stations, which include
BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC Regional East onto the internet by the end
of the year.

The new regional services will be phased in on the BBC’s Where I Live
regional news, entertainment and discussion portal, which is accessible
through the BBC’s main website.

"More and more people are listening to the radio through the internet,
especially through their office desktops," said BBC English Regions
controller Andy Griffee.

The move follows the BBC’s decision last year to broadcast all the
national and regional variations of BBC One on the digital satellite
platform.
