Dear All,
Just a quick note to bring you all up to date on a few recent developments
and to remind you all about the forthcoming Access Radio Forum (ii).
Firstly, some stations will have received a letter from Mark Thomas at the
Radio Authority concerning their transmission plans. Don't worry if your
station has not, as this means that he is essentially happy with your
proposals! If anyone has any queries about this letter, please feel free
to contact me (details below).
Please note that I have also changed my mobile phone number (also below)!
A couple of weeks ago, Steve Buckley and I held a meeting at the Radio
Authority with Tony Stoller and Soo Williams which had some useful outcomes.
Tony Stoller reported that the Authority was generally very happy with the
way in which things were going and that he was confident that the
experiment would be a success. It was agreed that the Radio Authority
would use CMA Forum meetings as a point of contact with stations, and that
he, Soo Williiams and Mark Thomas would all be attending the next meeting
on the 26th of November. In addition, subject to the appointments process
being completed, the Experiment Evaluator would also be invited to
attend. We were anxious to organise such an approach in order to minimise
travel time and expense for station staff.
SECOND ACCESS RADIO FORUM
As previously announced, this will be held in London on Monday the 26th of
November in the building which also houses the CMA's London Office:
The Lewis Suite,
London Voluntary Sector Resource Centre (LVSRC)
356 Holloway Road
LONDON
N7 6PA
The nearest tube station is Holloway Road on the Picadilly Line.
We are still finalising the agenda for this meeting, so suggestions are
still welcome. However, we will be having a long session with the various
representatives of the Radio Authority including Q & A time. Possibly
there will also be a separate session covering evaluation matters and
access once more to technical support.
The day will begin with registration between 10.00 and 11.00 AM
Morning sessions will run from 11.00 to 13.00
Lunch (13.00 to 14.00) which includes a vegetarian option
Afternoon sessions from 14.00 to 16.00
CMA FESTIVAL & AGM
The Radio Forum takes place the day before the CMA's annual festival and
AGM which we very much hope Access Radio operators will be able to attend.
The Keynote speaker this year is, the Rt Hon. Tessa Jowell MP, Secretary of
State at the Department of Culture Media and Sport.
Full details of the event can be found on the CMA web-site at:
http://www.commedia.org.uk/commedia2001/
The location of this event is also in London at The Royal Horticultural
Halls & Conference Centre on the corner of Greycoat Street & Elverton Street
near Victoria Station in London SW1.
Keeley, Bill and I will all be at the Sound Broadcast Equipment Show at the
NEC in Birmingham next Wednesday and Thursday. Any of you that are
attending, please drop by our stand (Number 68) to say hello. Corner me
personally if you have any specific queries etc. Details of SBES can be
found at:
http://www.sbes.com
I look forward to speaking with you / seeing you all in a couple of weeks
time, if not before.
Best regards to one and all;
Sincerely,
Lawrie.
