[cma-l] FW: GROUND HOG DAY

It's always difficult to know where to start if/when/trying to reply to one
of Nick's outburst.
However to look on the bright side Phonic FM are organising a conference
for Community Radio Stations in the South West (and we mean DEEP South
West, not what the Government laughingly calls the south west which
includes Gloucestershire Wiltshire and Greater Bristol connurbation). We've
had help from Exeter City Council and the take up has been remarkably
positive. We're having an input from three "soon to be on air" stations in
Somerset, Dorset and Devon, an official visit and talk from OFCOM ,
together with a q&a session with a radio engineer, a 'deserter from
commercial radio' OFCOM and (natch) CMA. It certainly doesn't seem as
gloomy as depicted by the views emanating from Cheshire, and in any case
there's a determination to provide a positive view of what goes on in the
sector, as well as providing an opportunity to exchange views/ideas on a
range of topics. In fact there's a resilience that doesn't appear to
emanate from the gloom in the canal side. Of course there are frustrations,
but anybody who exists in the current economic and political climate
wouldn't expect there to be immediate answers to any of the woes that seems
to beset Bollington so heavily.
The event in on 9th June and you can find details on our website at
www.phonic.fm ( we're celebrating our 10th anniversary the same day)
A synopsis of the days proceedings will appear on the website in due course.
