*Reporting on Migration & Refugees training workshop for EU journalists*



*London, 4 – 8 September 2017*

The Media Diversity Institute  (MDI) is inviting applications for a
workshop it is organising for journalists from EU countries who are keen to
improve their skills related to reporting on migrants, refugees and other
vulnerable groups.

The event will be held in London between 4 – 8 September 2017. Journalists
from EU countries interested in participating at the workshop should
contact info at media-diversity.org for further information on how to apply.
The deadline for submitting applications is end of 24 July 2017. The
working language will be English. All costs of participation will be
covered by the organisers.

The workshop, organised as part of the ‘Media Against Hate Speech
<http://www.media-diversity.org/en/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3129:media-against-hate-speech&catid=18:current-projects&Itemid=21>’
project, aims to explore best practices on covering sensitive issues
concerning migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups, in the context
of Brexit and the growth of xenophobic attitudes across Europe. It will
look at both good and bad practices in media coverage as well as data
journalism as an important aspect of responsible reporting. The workshop
will be highly practical in nature and one of the objectives will be for
all trainees to produce appealing stories during the event for publishing
in their media outlets, under the guidance of experienced trainers
specialised in this topic. The workshop will be supported by Google News
Lab who'll provide training on a range of digital tools for journalists.

The Media Diversity Institute <http://www.media-diversity.org/en/> (MDI) is
one of the partners gathered by the European Federation of Journalists
(EFJ) for the project Media Against Hate Speech. Other partners involved in
the project are: Article 19, Community Media Forum Europe (CMFE), Community
Media Institute (COMMIT), Croatian Journalists’ Association (CJA) and
Cooperazione per lo Sviluppo dei Paesi Emergenti (COSPE). The project is
financially supported by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC)
Programme of the European Union.
