[cma-l] Licences

Yes I did but as a top figure. When you use language like 'tops' it means a
starting point whereby you have drawn a line in the sand.
You then quite rightly so have the other discussions and argument thrown
into the mix. You have mentioned a couple, I think Eddie mentioned one etc
etc
Remember I was including everything --Internet feed and DAB should we ever
get it.
The point I was trying to make and have been trying to make for years and
years now but clearly struggling is :- we are all doing the same thing with
the end result being providing a Community service with a Bank balance at
the end of the year of ZERO.

I don't think I'm a Communist or a Socialist nor a Capitalist ......... to
be honest, I don't know what I am anymore so don't read into my suggestions
as political, I just think in our case we should all receive the same from
the fund, we should all pay the same in licences.

You have to FIX a fee, we need a FIXED FEE if you have a FIXED FEE then
all the other nonsense naturally goes away.
The same applies to the fund .... if you just dole out the same to everyone
you only need one lady sat there with a cheque book for one week in January
writing out the cheques. No more bureaucracy, no more bidding against each
other, and like your suggestion, more in the Pot because you are not paying
Panels to sit 4 times a year. That could go into the fund. It might only be
another £300 quid but it pays the Parasite Fees for a quarter.

We are doing all of this the wrong way round ... we've got the tail wagging
the Dog. They're dictating the odds because we have no policy, no mandate,
no decision etc etc
By the way, if PRS/PPL are coming to Conference, I wouldn't bother listening
to any speeches, just go straight into ''any questions'' and then stand
aside as you may get trampled underfoot in the stampede LOL

Did you really suggest £2k for a blanket licence Nick? I think that would be
way over the top - not only is it a lot more than many of us pay, but I
would argue that the new joint licence should actually be considerably less
than the total average payment at the moment. This is because they are
saving admin costs by switching to one licence, and should be passing on a
good slice of this saving.

Having a flat rate blanket licence should also greatly further reduce their
admin costs, so if the idea of a blanket flat rate licence were proposed, I
would have said it should be more in the region of £1,000 index-linked for
micro stations (say up to a turnover of £100k index-linked).

There are other anomalies in the system that I would like to see addressed,
but some are tricky. One for example is that if our programmes are broadcast
20 miles to our north by a separate Ofcom licence holder, then a second set
of licences is required by PPL/PRS. But if our programmes are also broadcast
to a village 20 miles to our east and a third one 20 miles to our south by
means of off-air relays under our own Ofcom licence, no additional charges
are payable. Go figure.

Alex

Dear All

I sent my responses over a week ago, however for the record the 'official'
response has now gone to the CMA + Lucy at PPL, Laura at PRS, Canalside
Staff and Volunteers, Wayne Rooney, Engelburt Humperdinck, Jean Claude
Junker, Barry Manilow, Alan Titchmarsh & Mickey Mouse and of course our
Governing body The Muppets.

Hopefully this can be thrashed out quickly and then we can all get on with
what we are meant to be doing which most definitely isn't 1) being ripped
off 2) bureaucratic pointless nonsense
