[cma-l] Volunteers, charity, and back to work schemes

A rant free response Ed LOL :-)

Not sure about the ‘less unpaid work’ sentence ?? are we saying that
‘’’people’’’ ‘’’folk’’’ are volunteering with the Radio Station but are
on job seekers allowance / or looking for work / not looking for work /
actually on the rock n’ roll but still volunteering ??? do I have the
gist of this ?

We have been here on a number of occasions and one of the positives at the
end of it is that we have actually helped people back to work. Part of the
ethos I think.

I’m just looking for clarity here that’s all

.. I was led to believe that
if people are on these schemes then volunteering is fine, but if job
opportunities (regardless of whether they are good jobs/reasonable jobs/bum
jobs they are in someway obliged to take them or lose their benefits. Like
you say, right or wrong we don’t want to get into a Political discussion as
to whether we believe this to be just or not, only the facts.

My constructive advice would be that I don’t think there is a great deal we
/ you can do about this as it is the nature of the Beast. If folk are
working they can volunteer, if they are not working they can volunteer, but
if they are volunteering and not working but claiming, then the goalposts
shift and our projects can’t be used as a sort of crutch.

Shoot me down by all means if I have got this wrong
 I don’t think I have
though.

Surely working at Poundland AND volunteering at the Radio Station is the one
to be aiming for out of the three options isn’t it ?? as the authorities
wouldn’t allow the others.

Regards

Nick Happy New Year everyone, the Hamster is back on
the Wheel

. Run Run Run

You see, no mention of PRS
.. perhaps the volunteers could ask Noddy for a
tickle out of his Christmas PRS Bonus = £430,000 quid ---- this way they
(your folk) could carry on volunteering and keep the Wolves from the Door at
the same time and Poundland could look elsewhere. Everyone is then a Happy
Bunny.

Dear all,

I wonder if anyone in the CMA world is up to date on how to address the
back-to-work schemes which apparently oblige people to work in Poundland and
such like; and prevent them accordingly from volunteering at our radio
station.

Several volunteers here are distressed that instead of being able to offeri
us their services, they are being forced to take more or less unpaid work
elsewhere. I do not know how best to address this nor whom to approach.

Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

Thanks and a Happy New Year!
Yours

Ed

PS I really do not wish to start a long thread about the iniquities of
government policy, the shoddy goods on sale at bucket shops, the brutalities
of post-industrial capitalism, the true nature of the PRS, etc.
