[cma-l] SWINDON 105.5 on the buses!

I hope you’ve reported the back scratching to PRS & PPL

.. they’ll want
the equivalent NBR figures re:- barter/contra and hey ! a new section
now ‘back scratching’’ :-)

A few posts flying around today about Stations not being able to play their
own output in their own reception area without facing yet another additional
charge from the Parasite Society of Great Britain. The World has gone mad,
and WE have gone soft.

There ought to be no reporting (as there is nothing to report) just one
licence that covers the lot, negotiated at a flat rate fee. State the amount
of songs used in an hour (average) and no NBR as net of zero = zero

.
The section where they want to know the ins and outs of a Nags backside
re:- barter / contra / BACK SCRATCH ought to simply say :

Section <> MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS !

We are currently in a ding dong with both of these organisations basically
because we feel we need to sign no more agreements (we can’t agree on
something that we totally disagree with !

We received a caution from one of them two weeks ago saying ‘’in our
agreement we agree to fill in the form and send back a report’’ I made it
clear 3 years ago that we do not agree to this and that we are a
not-for-profit organisation whose year end always results in = not a Pot to
pee in. What don’t they understand about this ? working out the
arithmetic of how many pennies a contra deal with the local Milkman equates
to, is a farce.

I have asked them for a form which consists of a flat rate fee and how many
songs and can they roll the licences (FM/Internet) all up into one please
--- I am still waiting. We have set a S/O up with them both, so they are
getting their money on that flat rate fee. We have never refused to pay, we
have always paid.

I sincerely hope a PROPER AND FIT flat rate figure has been negotiated
between the Parasite Societies and the CMA

..I suppose it could be split
into a two tier fee
 Big Stations and Ickle Stations
 trouble is, I’m not
sure how you work that out when all of us end up at the end of year on =
zero ???

The best bit is on the form where it reads (donations / grants etc) they
say and I quote ‘’we’re not interested in that’’ well if that’s
the case why do we have to report it --- we refuse point blankly as it is
none of their business and it is a pointless exercise. Lot’s of this is also
about strong principals.

You may ask why do I keep banging on about this ?? it is because many
years ago at a meeting in Manchester the topic of PPL/PRS came up in
relation to Community Radio

..we were led to believe that there was a flat
rate fee for Community Radio. This then conveniently got lost in dispatches
and it turned into a ‘minimum fee’ + a gobbledy gook report and extra
tickles £££ on an NBR which as you know is completely different to a flat
rate fee.

We have allowed ourselves to be hoodwinked and we have allowed ourselves to
be walked all over. As I said weeks ago ---- all our agreements are now on
the Log Burner. If they are dissatisfied with the flat rate fee then they
need to renegotiate it

a nice bit of back scratching might work
wonders in the meeting.

Good work Shirley and great use of back scratching which I am a huge fan of.
In fact, we have achieved more over three years by doing that than charging
for advertising!

Hi,

I thought this would be a slightly unusual story to share with you.

SWINDON 105.5 has completed a move to new premises (a major job!) and is now
sharing a large building with one of Swindon's libraries.

We now have two bus stops (see photo).

Also, I voice the bus stop announcements on the town's bus service - at no
charge and in return for passes I discretely give to volunteers who are
struggling a little financially. An announcement for each of the services
stopping at our bus stops now says "next stop Liden Centre and SWINDON
105.5".

Our posters are very often put in the windows of all buses for a month at a
time. New posters and letterheads and banners have been printed by a local
company as their contribution to move. Creative partnership working and
promoting our Station to the community we serve!
