Ofcom issued this notice yesterday:http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radio-broadcast-licensing/monthly-updates/update0116This section is particularly significant:Community Radio Community Radio licensing timetableThe community radio licensing timetable has been revised for the final two regions. See here: http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radio-broadcast-licensing/community-radio/apply-for-licence/timetable
Ofcom intends to invite community radio licence applications from Region 10 – Greater London and other areas within the M25 during the first half of 2016.There will be an opportunity to apply for a Medium wave (AM) band community radio licence for locations anywhere throughout the UK in the second half of 2016.
The relevant Timetable section is shown as:10Greater London and other areas within the M25First half of 201612 weeks after opening date11Medium wave (AM) band, for locations anywhere throughout the UKSecond half of 201612 weeks after opening dateIt appears therefore that Ofcom may have found usable FM frequencies within the M25 - and still is of the opinion that AM is a practical and feasible alternative to FM for Community Radio services.
I feel we need a lot of clarification here.
