[cma-l] quiery ?

Basically I do this may sound a touch arrogant but the topic
does frustrate me somewhat. I have banged on about this for a long time, I
only wish people would listen. As Radio goes we are a sort of hybrid, were
all things to all men, or at least we try to be. The problem is even when
applying this system we do have to align ourselves one way or another.
I believe we are stronger if we are Variety Music led say = 65% and = 35%
speech
.. read my previous e-mail please
. We are not Radio 4, nor
are we Newsnight, nor are we News 24
BUT, if we play a canny game,
keep the music and dare I say compete with the likes of Radio 2 and BBC
Local Radio we will be well in the mix.
You can argue til the Cows come home, those Stations who have rooted
themselves in documentary type programmes with no music are possibly being
listened to by one man and his Dog. It looks nice, sounds nice and ticks the
boxes
these are the same people of course who are complaining because
theyve only got three sponsors, two advertisers and not a half-penny to
scratch their backsides with.
I didnt suggest this to get into an argument or a debate. What I would
rather do is put it to the test and see what happens
. I reckon I will be
right
however I will be the first to stand up and be counted and hold my
hands up if I am wrong.
A music based Current affairs (Health well being / guests / arts / history)
in 8 minute speech blasts going out 11 1 as a suggestion just might be a
winner.
Anyway
if it is recorded in the morning in chunks and sent out at
dinner-time not central virtual playout then people can please themselves
.
Broadcast it out with music or send the whole lot out as just speech
.Ill betcha now that Canalside gets more listeners than Mr Just Speech

Firstly, streaming it from a central and virtual auto playout server isn't
an issue and would work the same as Sky News.
Secondly, who says the networked show has to have music in? News,
newsnight, documentary shows don't have music in.

Each Station could chuck a hundred quid in the Pot (£100 pa)
.surely
thats not going to break the Bank ? each Station could get the show
sponsored. If it was 2 hours then it would be 4 x 25 minutes and the
sponsors would get a mention at the beginning and at the end and twice on
the breaks during the show.
BUT ALAS there is a problem of course. The Music selection at one
Station might be different to that of another, so the safe bet might be
chunks of 8 minutes speech x 12 per 2 Hour show
..this way if you prefer
to play Atomic Kitten after the discussion or Led Zep, then thats up to
you.
The duration of speech can be too long
I think it needs to be 7 x 8 as
opposed to 28 x 2 of course this is all opinions. The show would then
be a 2 hour show and not 1 hour
.. ideal lunchtime listening.
However, it does determine where a PC can stick the show if the speech
content blocks are too long.
A Community Radio Networked Show would have to have links no longer than 8
minutes tops. If there is too much to say in one link then dont prattle for
15 minutes, spread it over two links.
We would be in the mix with Radio 2
.. not Radio 4
WE COULD do our own show ie:- live from the CMA HQ or it is broadcast
from the HQ after being sent to Bill, and we (The Stations) then home in on
it. Heres where my Networked Jingles come into play youre tuned to
the UK Community Radio Network, for more details check your local Radio
website or words to that effect.
Anyway, Ill leave it there for now, I dont want to end up teaching Grandma
to suck eggs :-)

I would but it's funding, as ever, to cover the time involved in research
and production. Keep me in the loop.
I'm a producer of syndicated shows already. One of which is a science and
technology show.

Dear All
Are there any of our Stations (there must be surely) that do programmes
that are generic ?
Ie:- the topic might be elderly people related, or political (national)
current affairs (national) and the programmes wouldn't sound out of
place on any of our Stations ?
I have always maintained we are missing a trick here. Almost like a couple
of Networked Shows but for US as Community Radio. They could be recorded in
chunks of half an hour so local adverts and breaks can be chucked in.
I reckon it makes sense and it is a great opportunity for someone who would
like to be a touch more National than just Local.
We all know that we get inundated with National MUSIC shows and without
being rude they are T-A-P .... they're good and professional, so it isn't a
criticism .... I just think more of an hour / 2 hour current affairs with
COMMUNITY INCLUDED would be a belter.
Is anyone up for that ? there must be some chomping at the bit ..... Pippa
maybe ?
