Not quite true to be honest
.. in fact, defo not true. Partly right I
accept, but not entirely. Silk purses and sows ears spring to mind.
Not many of us apart from our Team here at Canalside, Andy at Bay and the
guys at Tudno have experienced sitting down in front of a potential sponsor,
them asking us OK Chaps, tell us what this malarkey is all about we do
a great job in explaining it (well I definitely do) and then when they
say well, top man, wed like to support you and this is how we would like
our advert sounding and how we wish to lay it out and then we have to
reply mmm ??? Houston we have a bit of a problem, we darent
advertise on-air
.. they reply with the all confused dumb look on their
face But I thought you were a Radio Station ? we then spend
the next Hour ATTEMPTING to explain the rules whilst at the same time losing
the will to live, and in some cases, getting to the end and you have wasted
2 hours of your life as they say thanks, but no thanks
The baffoons and yes I do not take that word back
. The baffoons who
thought this one up need sectioning !
the authorities have most
definitely lost Canalside Radio between 2007 and 2013 at least £30,000
pounds and thats being on the safe side of the figures. Not forgetting the
wasted time spent trying to get the support £££ in. Time that could have
been spent doing what we are MEANT to be doing.
Dont say to us at the end of the year your key commitments are a bit
short I know, its because weve wasted about 5 weeks trying to get
sponsorship in on a wing and a prayer.
Absolutely disgraceful ! I dont agree with this as you know, but under
the ethos of equality and opportunity (opportunity for some and lack of
opportunity for others and Im alright Jack) before we got down to talking
about the nitty gritty of this, it does as I say rub against the grain of
what we all stand for.
So, you can have the best Sales-person in the World and the Greatest
whizz-kid Manager in World
.. if they are handicapped, they are not going
to perform to their full potential.
Sorry guys, I know I sound like a stuck record but these are the facts and
this is reality.
Of course I am a forgiving person, I am always willing to forgive, I doubt
well forget though. We ought to be awarded a gold medal for our endurance
and hanging in there when the going got tough. Tudno and Bay keep your chins
up guys and dig in
hang in there. Someone wil eventually wake up and smell
the coffee.
Sadly, as in life, most of the folk in authority (not all) but some, are so
removed from reality, the front door on the Ivory Tower has got a padlock on
it, and theyve lost the key.
I await the Radio Order
.surprise me !! shock me !! pleeeeease
make us all happy bunnies. Focus on the spend and not the earn.
Regards
Nick

But if you put your number 4 as number 1 instead, all the rest should then
be taken care of! :-)

After having built over 40 stations but not actually ever had the pleasure
of running one for more than 28 days, I'd prioritise in a different order:
1. Professional imaging so you sound to your audience like a proper
radio.
2. A superb website featuring a listen again service and links with
social media
3. Make your ads in house by all means, but make very sure they sound
professional.
4. A full time paid Station Manager who runs the business
professionally and effectively.
5. Think carefully about News - go for local - don't bother with
national.
Whisky Mac for me please!
