[cma-l] PI Codes

We all use PI codes Pippa - yours did too!
JC is quite right - their usefulness is limited by signal strength of course - but that's often aggravated by a lot of stations not using the maximum permitted injection level of 4kHz.

Alternatively make friends with your nearest neighbouring stations and pass
listeners to eachother. It worked a treat for Wycombe Sound during the
recent RSL when we passed listeners to Marlow FM and Radio Christmas in
Amersham. No need for imaging, just make it part of your regular set
of links.

“If you are in the car and you lose our signal in Wherever, don’t forget
you can tune in to Local CR Station on 87.7FM. Keep it Local”

PI codes (I assume we’re talking RDS) are great for you lucky boys and
girls with permanent licences.

It's simple enough.
One of my colleagues has made a study of the effects of PI character groups
and we can advise accordingly.
Ofcom will change a PI code to co-operate with or avoid other Licencees on
written request.
We have a Client group in Yorkshire for instance where we are contemplating
this.

Ian,

its interesting about the PI code, I remember having this discussion about
2 / 3 years ago about the idea of changing CR PI codes so that you had this flow
between stations.. It was muted that it might be an idea but more faff than its
worth, and also that there is not enough overlap or coverage to make it
effective.. As CR stations grow it might be an idea for the future.

We could get to something akin to this.
A modern RDS-equipped receiver interprets parts of your PI code to
associate you with other similar stations.
This will allow a receiver tuned to your station to switch automatically
to another CR station when its signal achieves a higher level than yours for a
preset amount of time on a journey.
This may or may not be something you would like to consider - depending
on how well you get on with your neighbours!

  Dear
  All

I know it would never
happen …. Well, I don’t think it would, but wouldn’t it be absolutely
fantastic if we ALL had the same imaging. Obviously the wording in the
sweepers / jingles / stabs etc would be different but the sound / music /
style the same. You could drive anywhere in the Country and tune into the
local Community Radio Station …. The most you here the ident you automatically
  know it is Community Radio.

At the end of the
day, we are a fraternity, we are a family …………. I’d be up for
  it

Am I now off with the
fairies heading for Noddyland or perhaps completely gone doolally ? …….. I am
currently in a rocking chair sat on the front patio with a sock on my head,
two knitting needles in my ears and a piece of straw hanging out of my
  mouth J

  Hi

 Can anyone suggest a good
imaging production company they have used in the past. I am aware of the
'usual suspects' so trying to find someone who is innovative and different?
