[cma-l] Station imaging

I think I would tend to agree with this. What we do here in Sunderland is often vastly different to what other stations, even fairly close by do. I'm sure Nick is being a bit tongue-in-cheek here though. We should celebrate ourselves as being community stations, and certainly I would advocate mentioning it in (some) of the branding. We should be proud to community broadcasters, and members of the CMA. Commercial radio likes a uniform identity now as it makes local stations easier to explain when they meet big advertisers. Once you explain Hallam FM, you don't need to mention MFR, Metro etc as they are all the same. There's also a cost saving having one package, re-sung. Our world is different, and so the standard of branding is variable - and that's (mostly) a good thing. Let's celebrate our uniqueness, it's why our listeners listen

I can't reply for the station, but personally I think that the same imaging is just about the worst possible thing that could happen.

We broadcast in the NE of Scotland where the Doric tongue is still the norm. Over to the West it is Gaelic orientated. What suits a rural station up here would probably cause hilarity and disbelief in the major urban areas - likewise, something that appealed down there would jar horribly in tone, in style, in pace in everything in the rural areas.

There seem to be several types of CR - at the extremes, a good number appear to be young person training organisations who happen to use radio. Others (like us) are radio stations who sometimes, but far from exclusively, work with young people. We also work with many others who are totally outwith our organisation but use us as a method of reaching the broader community. There are lots at various points between the two extremes. We are all *very* different.

I'm currently "admiring" the new web site for MFR in Inverness - exactly the same as Tay in Dundee, Clyde in Glasgow, Forth in Edinburgh, etc.

Sorry Nick, but the "one size fits all" approach is surely *exactly* what is wrong with commercial radio - I'd far rather celebrate our diversity in the CR world!!!

Cheers,

Eddie Stuart

Dear All

I know it would never happen .... Well, I don't think it would, but wouldn't it be absolutely fantastic if we ALL had the same imaging. Obviously the wording in the sweepers / jingles / stabs etc would be different but the sound / music / style the same. You could drive anywhere in the Country and tune into the local Community Radio Station .... The most you here the ident you automatically know it is Community Radio.

At the end of the day, we are a fraternity, we are a family ............. I'd be up for it

Am I now off with the fairies heading for Noddyland or perhaps completely gone doolally ? ........ I am currently in a rocking chair sat on the front patio with a sock on my head, two knitting needles in my ears and a piece of straw hanging out of my mouth :)

Hi

Can anyone suggest a good imaging production company they have used in the past. I am aware of the 'usual suspects' so trying to find someone who is innovative and different?
