Community radio station Corby Radio has played host to Radio 1 personality
Chris Stark.

The well-known contributor to the Scott Mills show has been in the
Northamptonshire town today and yesterday ( Dec 3 & 4 ) to help kick
off BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra's "1 Million Hours" challenge.

Today ( Friday ) Chris and his broadcast team paid Corby Radio's studios in
the town centre a visit to see what we do and to spread
the word further about the challenge on Corby Radio itself.

It's aim is to get a total of 1 million hours of volunteering pledged by
young adults across the country.

Corby, a town well known for its generous nature, was picked by the BBC to
get the drive underway.

Chris has been using the Twitter hashtags #ChrisInCorby and #1MillionHours
to spread the word.

On-air with station manager Des Barber Chris said "Corby is a proud town
and I have had lovely welcome and a great response from people
here so far".

Des Barber and Corby Radio say it's great the town has been chosen as the
starting point for such a venture.

Corby Radio began FM Broadcasting on a community licence in 2009. Many of
its team including on-air presenters are volunteers, and
promoting volunteering opportunities is one of the remits of the station.

One of Chris's broadcast team in Corby has been Micaela Kelly, who came
through the Corby Radio Academy for youngsters to learn
radio skills for social gain. Micaela is now taking part in a BBC Local
Radio Apprenticeship Scheme.
