Commercial boys poking their conks in again instead of minding their own
business and getting on with what they are meant to be doing. What is it
about this always looking over your shoulder ??? If our experiences are
anything to go by we have had to endure Restrictions, nonsense, dirty
tricks, falsehoods whilst at the same time trying to adhere to Ofcom code
and tick the boxes on our Key Commitments.

We have remained strong, focused and determined and done the job '''and
some''' and we feel better for it. We deserve a medal.

The best thing is, that all the restrictions, nonsense and badgering of MP's
a DCMS from the Commercials actually proves that what we all do is good, if
it wasn't, they wouldn't be bothered. I for one certainly find it all quite
laughable . irritating yes, but most certainly entertaining . oh and one
word I forget ''pathetic''

We take it as one BIG HUGE Compliment !

However, if I was head of Ofcom or in the DCMS / Radio Board and they came
mithering me, I would send em packing with a big flea in their ear and their
tail between their legs.

I think everyone gets my drift, so I'll leave it there :-) LOL

Onwards and Upwards, keep up the good work everyone.

Regards

Nick

As you say Ian a very welcome and, as far as I'm concerned, significantly
overdue development.

My concern though is that Ofcom will be under pressure from the commercial
operators to screw these multiplexes down to very low power. In theory DAB
should have greater resilient than FM but at lower powers there potential
for lots of localised black spots.

I guess the trials will aim to expose these issues.

Kind Regards

Alan

A welcome proposal and clarification of other recent announcements.
We have already notified Ofcom of our capacity to source/provide certain
items of equipment, antennas and hardware - and our coverage planning,
installation and launch expertise.

Subject: [cma-l] Ofcom consults on new short-term licences for small-scale
digital radio trials

Ofcom has published a consultation seeking views on the approach to issuing
new short-term licences to support small-scale digital radio trials being
run next year.

This consultation focuses on the conditions and award processes for trial
Wireless Telegraphy Act licences needed to test small-scale DAB multiplexes
in three locations. If successful, this new technology could allow smaller
radio stations to broadcast on digital at a lower cost.

This technology was first trialled in the UK by an Ofcom engineer in
Brighton between September 2012 and January 2013. This experimental DAB
multiplex showed it could be feasible to deliver infrastructure capable of
supporting digital radio transmission at a lower cost than the current
systems used.

These trials will help inform a wider programme of work Ofcom is undertaking
on the possibilities for enabling smaller radio services to broadcast on
digital radio.

The consultation document can be viewed on Ofcom's website
(http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/small-scale-dab/).
The consultation sets out Ofcom's proposals for licensing a number of
short-term trial small scale DAB multiplexes. During the consultation
period, Ofcom will be holding a small number of events based around the
consultation proposals. The first of these will be a technical demonstration
event held at Ofcom's facility at Baldock, Hertfordshire, on 13 November
2014. For more information, or to register interest in attending, please
email smallscaleDAB at ofcom.org.uk by Wednesday 5 November.
Ofcom intends to hold another event during the consultation period in London
which will address the work on small scale DAB more widely. Details will be
announced soon.
