I think this is a shame but I hope that the academy can restructure to make
it sustainable and a great organisation that supports and promotes all
radio.

Radio Academy Awards cancelled in restructure

*There’ll be no Radio Academy Awards in 2015 following a strategic review
at the organisation, which also sees the Academy office closing.*

Instead, a new unannounced event will take place most, likely in London,
designed to ‘celebrate and reflect the radio industry in a dynamic and
modern way’.

Ben Cooper, Chair of the Academy, said: “I’m confident and determined that
as an industry we can create an exciting and modern event that retains the
gravitas of over 30 years of Awards.”

The Radio Academy is run by the BBC, Global, Bauer, UTV, RIG and
Radiocentre who are all aligned in their ambition to create the new event.
The Executive Unit, home to a number of full time staff, will close in its
current form at the end of the year.

The Radio Production Awards and Arqiva Hall of Fame Lunch will continue,
but there’s no news on the future of the Radio Academy’s other big event,
the Radio Festival.

We’re in touch with the Academy and will update this story soon.
