Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is currently seeking partnerships with UK
arts organisations to provide students with valuable experience in relevant
fields to their course of study. The students are approaching the end of
their studies and have training in performance, broadcast, music, live
events – all aspects of media, stage and screen. The students need to
complete a short work placement during the current term.

We are especially looking for any radio-related experience opportunities,
any small or large acting opportunities of any description, community
video, experience with any drama groups working with
school/hospitals/community groups etc doing workshops or performances of
any kind, or musicians for anything from live events to composing pieces
for recording, helpers for media events etc.

If you are interested to work with us, and think you may be able to offer
some worthwhile experience to our students, please email Diane Rodgers
d.rodgers at shu.ac.uk for further information. Students may be placed
anywhere in the UK.

Please read on for some more background information:

Within Sheffield Hallam University, the Stage & Screen department currently
offers richly diverse performance courses that have a strong practitioner
edge. Final year students have studied performance from a range of
different perspectives such as; drama, popular music, radio and broadcast
media, stand up comedy, applied drama, acting for the screen – and will
have had some training in their chosen area of interest.

As students approach the end of their studies it is vital that they begin
to apply their theoretical and technical knowledge, as well as observe the
work of practitioners in the field and Sheffield Hallam University is keen
to develop links to cultural industries and community media, particularly
in the South Yorkshire region but elsewhere in the UK too.

Students undertake an attachment to the organisations; this attachment can
be in the form of a placement, shadowing etc. and should last for between 5
and 15 days (not necessarily in one block of time), although they may be
available for paid work on a longer term basis. Students will then be asked
to reflect upon their experience and research their chosen placement and
evaluate what their priorities will be after they complete their studies.

At this stage, the University is interested in building relationships with
community media organisations with a view to placements beginning next
academic year (*late Sep/Oct 2014*). If you would be interested in working
with us, we would be keen to hear what you feel you could use student(s)
for, and what kind of experience you could offer them. What areas of your
work might they be able to observe/get involved with etc.? For example:
events planning, sound engineering/lighting, rehearsals, broadcasting,
performing, involvement with live events etc.?

We are aiming for the partnerships to be useful to both the organisations
and of course the students themselves in terms of offering some kind of
meaningful experience for them.

Sheffield Hallam University is passionate about developing a closer links
with the cultural industry and community media, and is always seeking to
reflect innovations, new ideas and feedback from industry practitioners to
inform and develop their programme of study for the future.
