Hi everyone,

Please find our below press release. It would be amazing to see some radio colleagues at the V&A on the night.

EAST LONDON RADIO TO PARTICIPATE IN THE V&A HACKNEY WICK TAKEOVER

East London Radio, a community radio station based in Hackney Wick has been selected by the Victoria and Albert museum to take part in their Friday Late event on February 28th. Elr will be broadcasting alongside 100s of local Wick artists the voices and soundscapes that make this neighbourhood so unique.
Although desolate to an outsider's first glance, the factory walls of Hackney Wick and FishIsland hide a unique community of artists and designers, studios and live/work spaces. Rocketing land values, partly fuelled by the Olympic Park, now mean that the makeshift, DIY occupation of the area is increasingly under threat. (http://www.vam.ac.uk/)

In January 2014 alone the radio’s site has had 29,000 visits and continues to grow. Born in 2013, the station was the brainchild of two friends, Aaron McCarter and Ian Chambers. Both have worked in the third sector radio industry and identified the need for real routes into radio for young people, recent graduates, the long term unemployed and those within up and coming areas in East London.

Last year East London Radio was the exclusive radio station covering Danny Boyle's Shuffle Festival which recently won the London First award for Excellence in culture. Coverage included Q and As with Danny Boyle, Jarvis Cocker and The Players Lab an immersive promenade performance presented by The Planktonic Players.

East London Radio programming covers a wide range of music from Vintage Swing to new and upcoming unsigned talent in the area. There is also a Culture Hour which covered the 57th Bfi Film Festival and Sports n’ All which covers the burgeoning local sports scene.

Elr continues to form strong partnerships with cultural venues and organisations in the area teaming up with the Hackney Picturehouse, Rich Mix, The East London Sunday Football league, Cre8 studios in Hackney Wick and many others.

East London Radio has also been involved in the “St Clement’s: Workhouse to Our House” exhibition which will be hosted by The Shuffle Festival from 22 - 27 February.
