The Artist’s Cut: Call for Applications

Northern Film & Media in partnership with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary 
Art are looking for two talented artists with a background in moving 
image and/or photography practice to take part in a unique film 
development programme designed to nurture bold new voices in narrative film.

We are looking for two exceptional artists interested in broadening 
their practice by developing and producing a short narrative film. 
Inspired by the recent success of films by directors such as Steve 
McQueen, Sam Taylor-Wood and Gillian Wearing, The Artist’s Cut will 
support the selected artists to produce a short narrative film with a 
budget of £5,000. The scheme will also involve ongoing bespoke support 
from film industry mentors Kate Leys and Samm Haillay covering story 
development, scriptwriting and producing. The scheme will also provide a 
number of film workshops open to artists and filmmakers outside of the 
scheme covering directing, cinematography, story and distribution. The 
Artist’s Cut is a unique opportunity for two artists to broaden and 
develop their practice through a structured and supportive film 
development and production programme.
