Dear All

I'm not very good at Managing volunteers, they tend to Manage themselves at
our place, but fund raising and campaigning --- now you're talking !

No skills, just very basic being chucked in at the deep end and trying to
swim.

Fundraising we have Backstroked, Crawled, Breast stroked, Butterflied and
Free styled .... we have Managed ...... no medals, but I think we reached
Lane 8 in the final.

Campaigning .......... well ! we've done plenty of that, one of the
skills you need is passion and a thick skin to not let people grind you
down. Currently in the swimming pool of campaigning we're doggy-paddling !

On a sensible note, this sounds to me like excellent stuff and skills worth
having. It would be great to hear from the experts and not just the Mr
Gobby's like me.

Campaigning remember comes in two forms ..... Campaigning for something in a
positive manner and/or campaigning against something (possibly in a negative
manner) number 1 'the afore mentioned' is certainly more pleasant an
experience than number 2. Trust me, I know.

Regards

Nick

New apprenticeships have been launched which are designed specifically
for the third sector.

The apprenticeships develop practical skills in three key areas:

- Campaigning

- Fund-raising

- Volunteer Management

The programmes can be tailored to meet the particular skills that your
organisation needs.

You can find out more about apprenticeships on the Skills Third Sector
website including who to contact if you are interested in employing an
apprentice:
