Dear All

To round off the whole escapade, I would like to point out via this column
that Canalside Community Radio was nominated for an award ...
(yesterday evening) we attended the Cheshire and Warrington
Disability awards 2010/11 at the Warrington Wolves Rugby League Statdium
(Moi' and Heidi Reid attended)

There were over 30 tables each containing 10 people. Various groups came
from west Cheshire (Runcorn / Chester / Halton etc) east Cheshire
(Macclesfield / Congleton etc) plus south and south west and mid-cheshire
(Crewe / Nantwich / Northwich / Vale Royal etc) lots of groups and
organisations were nominated. There were lots of very inspirational people
at the event.

All the groups were on a screen, it then came down to the final selections
and the short lists. We were in the final selection. We were on the short
list. We couldn't believe it.

Guess what ? WE WON !

Our Community venture has been an amazing journey. We have ticked the boxes,
we have delivered the goods and by hook or by crook we shall continue to do
so. We have been however treated appallingly and differently.

The commercial stations do not do anything like this. In fact when they do,
it is all false, it is all a smoke screen if they can't make
mega bucks from their awards, you don't see their backsides for dust, and
yet the DCMS have been pandering to them for the last seven years.
Absolutely unbelievable !? talk about backing the
wrong horse !

We (CCR) do what we do day in day out, week in week out. Behind the scenes
and behind the actual broadcasts we run our projects with young people and
youngsters who have learning difficulties and disabilities. We don't look
for cheap publicity stunts, we do it because we care, we do it as a duty and
it ain't one off. It is difficult, very difficult as we rob Peter to pay
Paul and the key volunteers get burnt out.

I repeat, it is NOT how we earn and raise our funding, it is what we spend
it on. We spend it on genuine things, we are not for profit and we happy to
do so. That is all we ask, and yet here we are 7 years later trawling over
the same old same old same old.

Like I said, we've had enough, and the talking now ceases and we'll do
whatever it takes. We will stand up against these bully boys and we will
defend our project and the people we serve. We shall continue focused on the
ethos of Community Radio.

The DCMS and all the authorities and the hot air windbags can have as many
meetings and consultations as they want, we ain't interested anymore.

We have done nothing wrong. So if it is 'ding-dong' time, then bring it on !

Those responsible are a disgrace and we have almost reached the point
whereby I don't think we'd pee on them if they were on fire !

Our free on-air adverts start on Tuesday. The list will be the supporters
who have signed up with us for the same deal over the past 3/4/5 years.
Either it will be ignored as Ofcom can't find any broken rules or they will
point out some clauses .... We will now have to wait and see. As far as we
are concerned, we are breaking no rules.

We shouldn't even be here to be honest as we should be allowed to pick up
funding from ''wherever'' ......

Finally, one thing is for sure, you're all fed of me, and we are certainly
fed up of these unfair and totally unacceptable rules and regulations
CHANGE THEM ! and then we can get on with what we are supposed to be doing
which providing an excellent Community service .... we are not a Mickey
Mouse outfit, because last night we won an award, and if we are Mickey
Mouse, it is because we can't raise enough funding, not our fault but the
DCMS's.

Finished

Whilst writing this e-mail we are receiving lots congratulations from local
Councillors, listeners, organisations, groups, teachers ...... say no more.
It's a miracle we are still here, but we are, so why not blow your own
trumpet !?

Regards

Nick, Heidi and all the volunteers and participants.
