[cma-l] Youth Broadcasts

Hi all
This is very interesting. Tam's 'there is always help at hand'
suggests young volunteers know they'll always have help if they need
it, but Alex and Glyn's remarks about liability and responsibility
suggests the station might have an ulterior motive for staff to be
present. Julian also suggests that independence is largely about the
young volunteer's confidence to broadcast (could this also be about
station confidence in the young volunteer?) which suggests they are
considered adult volunteers.

If it's OK I have a couple of other questions:

1. Do most of you consider 'working independently' as 'young volunteers
broadcasting but with staff nearby' (for whatever reason)? And does
'working independently' mean being able to decide who is involved,
broadcast roles and content for every programme, or just being
unattended whilst broadcasting?

2. How does funding make a difference? For instance, would staff involvement
in youth programming change the way the programming is conducted if
funds were made available? Has anyone been through this and, if so,
what changes were made? What did the young volunteers think of this
change?

Cheers again
