Since the massive Kobe earthquake in 1995, community radio in Japan
has played a vital role in providing local information needed by
victims of natural disasters. Local governments have also realised the
importance of this mass communication medium and have supported them
financially.

Thank you for your worrying about Japan. This is Satoko. I am a
Japanese researcher of community media, and OK now.
from Japan (Satoko).

In my town Kyoto there is no damage because this town is in the west
of Japan where I live in.  However, a lot of friends live in the
stricken area, and I worry about their safety.

FM Y-Y is one of community media established after the Kobe earthquake
1995, they are broadcasting multilingual information:

This station is a model community radio in Japan.

And this community broadcasting is a member of AMARC.

And the mainstream media for example NHK,JNN,ANN etc.also use with

The government is requesting the orderly behaviour of the problem of
the nuclear plant in which it is struck. The citizens have not fallen
into the panic.

The electric power company discontinued the advertisement by the
earthquake report broadcasting.

A lot of roads and bridges broke, the small villages and the
elementary schools are isolated, and they are appealing for neither
water nor wireless equipments toward the helicopter.

We wish to express our gratitude for praying for all struck people.

However, one building exploded at the Fukushima nuclear plant. People
are taking shelter being frightened.
