My view on it is exactly the same as the community radio fund theory
.
Everybody gets THE SAME The CMA go ahead with
it and they ask the question who wants some of the lolly if
some stations dont want to sign up, then thats fine, it just means more of
the cake for the ones that do. It could be one advert running three times
per-day for a couple of months or quarterly (eg) (1 overnight / 1 in the
morning / 1 afternoon or evening no big deal and easy to manage.
You are quite right, there is some goodwill as someone could take the money
and not run the ad
. I like to think that ALL of us are above that. We of
course would only be able to thank the donor and nothing more
16
stations in the Country but you never know, it could change.
With reference to the ones that are already doing it regionally
get
ready for the whinge
we are here in the outback of North East
Cheshire. There aint a station in site for at least 10 miles-ish
and in fairness and not being disrespectful Pure are more akin
to Manchester than Rural Cheshire
. That leaves us with Moorlands well
over 10 miles away and Cheshire FM even further ?! theres ALL
and Wythenshawe but yet again they are more akin to the big City and Urban
mindset.
Its tough out here all by our lonsome
and guess what
. Were the ones
with the restrictions What a joke ! if you were
trying to write a novel, you couldnt even script that
..
Anyway, Im drifting off piste again, but in my opinion it is ALL relevant.
I have been contacted by a few of our community radio brothers whos names I
see from time to time on the message board, but, they talked about the
scheme and then I never heard anything. Perhaps they are off and running
already and decided to leave us to our own devices. Still, an e-mail or a
phone call would have been polite. I expect it from the Ivory Towers troop,
but not our gang.
Nevermind, just a thought thats all.
The CMA in my opinion should apply for the funding and then ask who wants
some of the action !?
Regards
Nick

We could do that.. although there is a couple like that regionally..
The issue is managing a portfolio of community stations which all have
different advertising packages not to mention prices that would differ.. I
have a little experience in this with a pilot project i ran last year called
student radio advertising.. designed to test the water as a national sales
agency for community radio (working on good will and commission). However at
times it was like herding cats. HOWEVER i do consider it a success and was
considering expanding into a regional / national community radio advertising
agency (But then the real world got in the way lol).. However if there is
interest and good will from a few stations to try a pilot then I might get
the project back up again.

Dear All
Short / Sweet and straight to the point
. Why dont we all do a
joint bid ? ALL 219 OF US
get a jolly good well
paid job say <> £35,000 + a little bit floating for a tickle £5,000
for a fund raiser
.. that fundraisers job is to contact the bigger
nationals and sell airtime for ALL OF US
. The promotions / sponsorship /
ads / donations etc etc
go out on every station
.. lots and lots
and lots and lots of £75 quids each (after it has been divided up) will
get us from A B quite easily
..
The person in the fundraising job is overseen by the CMA
.. deaf ears again no doubt though
.
remember, some of the simplist and daftest suggestions are the best !
Just a thought, thats all.
