[cma-l] UK Radio Player

Martin

There are lots of us registered to go on the RadioPlayer and we have recently received an update from them suggesting we will be able to do so shortly (which we are interpreting as 2/3 months!). I have not noticed any CR stations on it currently though.

We think it is a good idea and think everyone should go on it. The fee for a CR station is minimal at £90 per year (thanks CMA!) so the costs should not be a problem. It is clear that the RP will develop into the standard interface for accessing radio not just on computers but also phones, television and probably in car radios too.

One problem is that the current search facility is not very useful. Put in "Community Radio" and you will get a long list including every BBC local radio station (catch them while they are still around!), R4, Absolute, Heart and all the other wonderful CR stations! As far as I can establish there is no metatag for Community Radio, which is clearly an issue for us. The same sort of problem occurs when you try searching for a location - all national services are, obviously, available everywhere!

I would hope that it will be developed so you can search by a named location or perhaps GPS co-ordinate and "within 30 miles/km" to find actual local stations!
But I think the response for anyone wondering whether to go on the RP or not is Go For It!

regards,
