Friday 4th March is the deadline for black and minority ethnic media
professionals to apply to take part in the next Move on Up event.

The next event is for radio and for broadcast news and takes place at the
BBC, Broadcasting House, on Thursday 12th May.

Broadcaster Trevor Nelson will be joining the Controllers of the BBC’s
national radio stations and about 70 top radio industry and broadcast news
executives on the day holding one-to-one meetings with black and minority
ethnic (BME) media professionals.

More than 30 BBC executives will attend from the national and local radio
stations along with production and administration personnel. Bauer and
Absolute Radio are confirmed from commercial radio plus top independent
production companies.

In the news industry line-up the BBC’s executives include Steve Mitchell,
Deputy Director of BBC News and Mary Hockaday, Head of Newsroom. Alongside
the BBC are ITV News (including Deborah Turness, Editor, ITV News and Robin
Elias, Managing Editor), Sky News and Al Jazeera.
BECTU devised Move on Up as a practical response to under-representation of
BME workers in film and broadcasting, a greatly casualised industry in which
many people advance through informal recruitment practices and networking.

Alongside the meetings on 12th May the industry has put together a workshop
programme. BBC News Channel’s Clive Myrie and Asian Network colleague Rozina
Sini will be discussing how they progressed their careers, while Clive
Dickens, COO of Absolute Radio will give his views on the future of radio.
ITV News will hold a screentesting workshop; radio independents Whistledown
and Ladbroke will run workshops on programme making and indie production.
Another BBC workshop provides an insight into management.

We are delighted that BBC Audio and Music has invited Move on Up into the
home of BBC Radio. BME professionals will be meeting an all-star cast of
radio industry and broadcast news executives and we hope that the contacts
made and information gained will prove useful to you in your career.

The event is organised by BECTU in partnership with the BBC and the Cultural
Leadership Programme.
The brochure containing the line-up of executives and the workshop
programme, and an application form can also be downloaded from
www.bectu.org.uk <http://www.bectu.org.uk> .

There are hundreds of places available so please forward this email to any
colleague you think might be interested in attending.

Thanks and regards
