Community cinema volunteers get their rewards

The 2010 Film Society of the Year Awards took place at the Ciné Lumière, 
London on 18 September, hosted by the British Federation of Film 
Societies. The awards are a celebration of the achievements of UK film 
societies and community cinemas, and recognise their significant 
contribution to both cultural cinema and community cohesion.

The awards were presented by Francine Stock, writer, broadcaster and 
presenter of Radio 4’s The Film Programme. In her address, Francine 
commended the hard work and dedication of the volunteers that bring 
cinema to all areas of the country, saying: ‘Watching a film at your 
local film society is one of the best ways of sharing film.’
