[cma-l] Community radio(incl RSLs) on the Radio Player?

Presumably if an RSL holder was on Radio Player it would only be on it for the duration of its RSL? Seems hardly worthwhile. Is this the case?

So it's not for internet broadcasters at all?

Al

Subject: [cma-l] Community radio(incl RSLs) on the Radio Player?

Dear all

We have met with the BBC to discuss how community radio stations and RSL
holders can get onto the proposed Radio Player, which is likely to
launch this summer. The Radio Player will sit as an online portal (not
as a streaming service directly) as an easy way for people to search for
radio stations in a variety of ways. These will depend on how each
station "tags" itself, but will include, for example:

Search for station by postcode/locality
Search for particular genres
Search for particular interests (e.g. community radio, Polish programming)

The BBC has asked us to find out how many of you might be interested in
being on Radio Player. There will be a small charge (probably around
£300 per annum) but NB your particular "page" can attract advertising
and sponsorship as it does not count in any way as "on air advertising
and sponsorship". Being on Radio Player is likely to give community
radio a higher profile.

The only other condition other than cost is that you hold an Ofcom
licence which is why we are discussing with them a cheaper rate for RSL
holders as well as the full time stations.

Please let us know what you think to this initiative,

Looking forward to hearing from you

Best wishes

Jaqui
