Community Allowance partners sought
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The CREATE Consortium is looking for community organisations across
the UK to become partners in a Community Allowance pilot programme
that is planned to start in April 2010. The Community Allowance is a
scheme whereby community organisations can pay people on benefits to
do part-time or sessional work that strengthens their community while
their benefits remain unaffected. The Department for Work and Pensions
want to pilot this approach with people in receipt of Incapacity
Benefit and Employment and Support Allowance.

The Consortium is looking to work with organisations who:

    * Are local community based charities, social enterprises or
community interest companies

    * Trusted locally, with a track record of working with ‘hard to
reach’ people

    * Have the capacity and skills to support the Community Allowance
participants

    * Have the ability to generate local paid work (e.g. community
research or youth work) or identify and place people in paid work that
strengthens their neighbourhood (e.g. School Crossing Patrol).

If your organisation is interested in being part of this pilot
programme, please visit the CREATE Consortium website for more
information:

Deadline: 1 October 2009.

Free WiFi installation for communities and charities
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Freerunner are offering 50 communities in the UK the chance to have a
free WiFi service installed in a public place in the community, for a
three-year period. If your community is interested, you need to
contact them to tell them why your community needs WiFi.

The funding for the service comes from the commercial side of their
business, corporate sponsorship and advertising which is placed at the
start of your Internet session.

They have also partnered with JustGiving.com to come and install the
Freerunner service for free for 500 charities. Your charity needs to
have a broadband connection in place, and if you are successful,
Freerunner will come and install their WiFi service free of charge.

See the Freerunner website for more information:
