APOLOGIES FRO CROSS POSTING

Dear all

I'm having a chat with a colleague on the Sony Awards organising committee
on Tuesday - with a major theme being 'how can the awards better encourage
entries from the community radio sector'?

I want to hear what you have to say on this issue. Sad to say though, the
one obvious thing, lowering the entry fee, is unlikely to shift. On the
up-side, our close cousins at prison radio did so well with their 4 awards
this year. It has to be said that this has put some backs up amongst some
more mainstream operators but my point is that it doesn't take a budget to
make great radio.

For my money the door is wide open for CR stations to take more awards next
year. We know that we can and do make distinctive, authentic and meaningful
radio in a way that many mainstream operators have simply forgotten how to -
and we also now know that Sony judges will respect that.

[non disclaimer - I am not on a retainer from the Awards to boost entry
numbers]

So - what do you think? Let me know by the end of Monday and I'll do my
best to get the points expressed across.

bests,

Phil
